Lending Instruments

What do Investment and development policy lending include?
They are the two basic types of lending; they are made to governments following a program developed in the Country Assistance Strategy.

Investment Loans or Credits finance goods, works, and services in support of economic and social development projects in a broad range of sectors: e.g. Education sector development, Railway or highway project, Water supply and sanitation development project, Health project, Rural development project, etc.
They have a long term focus (5 to 10 years).

Development Policy Loans or Credits provide quick-disbursing external financing to support policy and institutional reforms in projects: e.g. Poverty reduction support, Programmatic social reform project, Economic recovery project, etc. They have a short term focus (1 to 3 years).

Other types of project financing such as Trust Funds and Grants are also described in this website.
